A poem I wrote recently for a funeral of a lovely Scottish lady

The Flower of Scotland by Alison Davies

She was the flower of Scotland the lady we called Gran
We loved her very much and we were all her biggest fan

A lovely happy lady and always had a smile
She was the best Gran ever by a metric mile

loved her Rowntrees Randoms and cornettos too
Never had a filling at the age of 92

She liked to have a sing song, sometimes to Vera Lynn
Loved it at Ty Cwm she’d be sat there with a grin

She lived through all the war years and was full of many tales
And the last five years were special settled here in wales

Living with her family and being treated like a queen
And sitting down relaxing with her favourite magazine

She’ll always be a part of you, watching from above
Think of Margaret often and think of her with love

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY By Gwyn Davies
Everyone a warrior, off to face the war,
We can only think of horrors and tragedies they saw.
Many mere youngsters, some too young to vote,
They crossed the English Channel in every ship and boat.
They dug into their trenches, waiting for the Hun.
No matter what was coming, they’d stand and never run.
Fighting for their loved ones, for you and him and me,
For all of us in Britain, and most they’d never see.
Many never made it back, left there in the dirt,
So many hearts were broken, so many families hurt.
They’d wait to hear the whistle, then off to fight the Hun,
Ripped by the barbed wire, mown down by the gun.
How can we repay our debt to all of these brave lads,
Protecting wives and children, protecting mums and dads.
Proud to serve their country, to do it with no fears
So stand there tall and strong today, no shame in shedding tears

Watching a lovely emotional film "Mr Church" and just had to get this poem out of my head and down on paper.

THE PRICE WE PAY.
I can’t believe you’ve left me, left and gone away.
I’d give up everything I own, for just another day.
Can’t believe I’ve lost you, never thought I’d see you go,
Still so much I have to give, so much love to show.
But life can be so cruel, so much down to fate,
Trying hard to stop myself slipping into hate.
But there’s no one there for me to blame,
Just a pawn in life’s great game.
Life’s a lottery, you were my prize,
And the thoughts bring tears to my eyes.
I had the prize, then lost it all,
But I’ll do my best to stand up tall.
Better to have loved then lost,
But I didn’t know at such great cost.
But I wouldn’t change a single day,
And grief’s the price I have to pay.

What Is A Celebrant? - Written By Gwyn Davies

Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
I’m a little old fashioned and haven’t a clue.
Celebrant, Celebrant, what is it you do?
Are you religious, or is that taboo?

Who is your target, where is your goal?
I’m a little confused, as to what is your role.
Are you religious, or the atheist sort,
I’m a bit in the dark and need to be taught.

Well let me enlighten, I’ll try and explain,
I’m there as a person to try ease the pain.
It isn’t about me or any belief,
I try help the loved ones to help with their grief.

There’s more than two options, to help people through,
So I’ll try and explain, what us Celebrants do.
We take an approach, with a personal touch,
For loved ones in need of the help for a crutch.

Some aren’t religious, but still want a prayer,
Or even a hymn, and we’re happy to share.
It just doesn’t matter what our belief,
We’ll use an approach, that helps bring relief.

So as you can see, it’s not black or white,
We offer a service that we just try make right.
Right for the person, whose life has passed on,
And try help those hurting, as their loved one has gone.

We tick all the boxes, some people say,
We try make it special, in our own unique way.
Times are a changing, changing so fast,
We must try move forward, not stuck in the past.

To help and bring comfort, is our real aim,
Each service is special, no two the same
Happy to meet to discuss what we do
At a time or a place chosen by you

<3 Essence of Your Heart ...

Human Touch Wales

I woke up with this poem in my head this morning and have titled it Tell them while you can.

TELL THEM WHILE YOU CAN.

Tell them that you love them, tell them every day,
Tell them that you love them whilst you have the chance to say.

Tell them that you love them; tell them while you can,
Tell them while you have the chance, don’t just simply plan.

Tell them when you see them; tell them when they call,
Tell all those that love you, tell them one and all.

Tell them that you think of them, and their always in your heart.
And even when you can’t be seen, you’ll never be apart.

Because love is not just physical, as all of us can see,
And love has no time limits, lasts all eternity.

So as our time it passes, one day we all must leave,
Remember that love’s eternal; it will help you as you grieve.

And when you feeling lonely, and there’s tears in your eyes,
Look upwards you will feel my love from there amongst the skies.

So dry those tears, wipe away,
For in your heart and mind I’ll stay.

Never to be parted, our hearts and spirits free,
Together then forever, just how it’s meant to be.

A recent poem that Gwyn wrote for a lovely lady
ODE TO THE SMILEY LADY,

Loving caring gentle, smiling most the day,
But if you crossed our Margaret, she’d make certain that you’d pay.

She may have been a tiny thing, but her hair was very red,
Arthur said the wrong thing once, and had peelings on his head.

A fiery little redhead, she’d put you in your place,
And often she could do it with that smile still on her face.

Spent her life surrounded, by friends and family,
Don’t throw that out I’ll have it, especially if it’s free.

It’s bound to come in handy, for someone that I know,
I’ll find a worthy home for it a good home it will go.

She had to give you something, each time that you went in,
Perhaps a bar of chocolate, or something in a tin.

Cupboards full of salmon, she used to stash away,
Great for making sarnies, if someone came to stay.

He house was like a circus, so many’d call for lunch,
Wasn’t a seat there often so on the stairs you’d sit and munch.

Equal shares for all of you, the dinners were so nice,
But her rice puds were disastrous she would serve them by the slice.

Christmas was her special time, she always planned ahead,
New rug and new wallpaper and new clothes upon the bed.

Now everyone will miss her, she knew t’was time to go,
But I’m sure she’s watching over us, and sees the love on show.

So when you get to heaven, and a glimpse of her you snatch,
You’re bound to know it’s Margaret, because her clothes will never match.

And if she is an Angel, who flies up in the sky,
You’ll see two wings that differ, and you’ll know the reason why.
